Dave Pynenberg

Mr. Pynenberg  was born and raised in the Fox Valley where he attended Little Chute High School and earned his Bachelors of Science in Education at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, he then went for his Masters in School Counseling at Minnesota State University. 

After graduation, he began his career in education serving as School Counselor at Shiocton High School in Wisconsin for six years. During his time in Shiocton he also coached Varsity Football and Baseball and ran many clubs and activities. 
In the fall of 1999, Mr. Pynenberg accepted a position as School Counselor at Appleton North High School and he enjoyed being in that position until 2005 at which time he started an Administrative Licensure Program through Marion College and was awarded the Associate Principal for Curriculum Position at Appleton North High School. From 2007 to 2011 he served as the Associate Principal for Activities after which time he returned to the Associate Principal for Curriculum and Instruction position. All together he has been at North for nineteen years, twelve of those as an Associate Principal before taking on the role as Principal of Appleton North High School during the 2017-2018 school year.  
All four of Mr. Pynenberg’s children have graduated from North HS and had an excellent educational experience. His wife Jean teaches Social Studies at both North and the Fox Cities Leadership Academy and is also involved with the Appleton eSchool. The Pynenberg family enjoys outdoor sports and time together- especially their annual summer trips to various baseball parks to cheer on their favorite team the Chicago Cubs!

Patrick Lee

Patrick Lee grew up in Wausau, WI and graduated from Wausau East High School in 1991. He has a twin brother who currently instructs at his high school alma mater in the IB program. His older brother is an executive living in Minneapolis. Patrick’s father was a syndicated outdoor journalist and his mother a paralegal. 

He attended UWMC in Wausau for two years where he played for their basketball team, was a member of their student council, and ultimately voted the school’s student Ambassador. Mr. Lee transferred to UW-Stevens Point majoring in English with a minor in Writing. He graduated with an English degree and taught four years at Rio High School. Also at Rio he was a JV basketball coach, Sophomore class Advisor, District Technology Coordinator, Drama Director, and High School Attendance Officer.  

His first Administrative job was at Kaukauna High School in 2001. He spent five years there as an Associate Principal. In 2006 he was hired by DePere High School to perform Associate Principal duties there for the next six years. 

Mr. Lee considered himself the happiest father and luckiest Principal alive when he was hired by the same school his three daughters would attend. He was hired as Principal of the Appleton Career Academy as well as the Associate Principal of Student Services for Appleton North High School in 2012.

As hobbies Mr. Lee likes to work out, run, and listen to music. He is married with three daughters who attend Appleton schools. His wife works as a NICU nurse at St. Elizabeth hospital and is the rock of the family for the countless hours he is away from them.

Paul HermesAssociate Principal

Paul Hermes

Mr. Paul Hermes is the Associate Principal in charge of Curriculum and Instruction for North High School. Mr. Hermes earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Marian University and his Bachelor Degree from UW-Oshkosh in Education & Broadfield Social Sciences.

He began his career in education teaching at Appleton East High School.  Mr. Hermes taught at East for six years, teaching World History, Sociology, and AP Comparative Government & Politics courses, as well as serving as Department Chair and Curriculum Support Specialist for the Social Studies Department. Mr. Hermes then began his administrative career as the Associate Principal of Bay View Middle School in the Howard-Suamico School District near Green Bay, Wisconsin, where he served for seven years. In 2016, Mr. Hermes was named Associate Principal of the Year for the state of Wisconsin (2016) by the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators (AWSA).

Mr. Hermes and his wife, Stacie, have two children (Ellen & Eddie) and they live in Freedom. Mr. Hermes is a huge Packers fan and is a season ticket holder. Mr. Hermes is avid golfer, loves to travel, learning about history, reading, and being active with his family. Mr. Hermes maintains a professional blog and is very active on Twitter - connect with him!

Nate Werner

Nate Werner grew up in Appleton, WI and graduated from Appleton West High School in 1991. He attended the University of Wisconsin—Green Bay and earned his Bachelors of Arts in Broad Field Social Studies. He taught social studies at Appleton East High School for 16 years from 1997-2013. He earned a Masters degree in Educational Administration from Concordia University Wisconsin. He then served as the Activities Director/Associate Principal at Neenah High School from 2013-2017.

He is beginning his first year as Activities Director/Associate Principal at Appleton North. He has coached soccer at various levels throughout his educational career. He coached the JV boys and girls soccer teams at Appleton East from 1997-2002, the Xavier Boys Varsity Soccer team from 2003-06, the Appleton North Boys Varsity Soccer team from 2006-13, the Appleton East Girls Varsity Soccer team from 2004-2010 and the Neenah Boys Varsity Soccer team in 2016.

He has been happily married to his wife Nicole since 1997 and has two sons (Isaac & Anthony). He enjoys watching students pursue their passions in co-curricular activities. When he is not at school, he enjoys reading, watching movies, and following the Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers!
